Manners I. Care, the first in
a series of twelve titles by enterpreneur and child advocate David
Bruce, provides disconnected kids the tools and incentive
to have fun and make friends.
Every once in a
while, a book comes along that redefines the possibilities for the
publishing industry. MANNERS I. CARE is one such book. The first
in a series of twelve innovative titles by entrepreneur and child
advocate David Bruce, it is a whimsical adventure written and illustrated
to help children who feel disconnected and isolated. These are the
children for whom the disciplinary technique of “time out
for acting out,” the modern day equivalent of standing in
the corner for bad behavior, was invented.
In MANNERS I. CARE a magical mentor aptly named Manners I. Care
pops onto the shoulders of a boy named Jack Bantam who lives in
“time out.” Manners leads Jack through a fabulous hall
of enthralling characters where he shows him how to have more fun
making friends than acting out.
Author David
Bruce knows
all too
well what it’s like to serve
“time out.” Afflicted severely by symptoms
of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder) as a child, he also struggled with
growing up in an alcoholic household, where patience came at a premium,
and emotional survival pushed aside the development of healthy socialization
skills. Now, a happy and successful adult with children of his own,
David Bruce is determined to help other families avoid some of the
pain and confusion he endured as a disconnected kid. To that end,
he is organizing an unprecedented national effort to benefit one-hundred
select charities helping disconnected kids, using his literary debut
as the vehicle.
